Deb Grant, LCSW, RSMT

About me

I use Body-oriented Psychotherapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), mindfulness approaches, energy psychology (including EFT) and ego state work in my therapeutic work with clients to help create lasting healing and change.

In addition to my training and nearly 25 years experience as a psychotherapist, I am a graduate of the School for Body-Mind CenteringĀ® in North Carolina where I became certified as a Somatic Movement Educator in 2010. I also hold two yoga teacher certifications, with advanced training in Chakra Yoga. I have received extensive training over the past twenty years in multiple approaches to helping heal the body, through bodywork, yoga and other somatic/body disciplines. These include Body-mind CenteringĀ®, Yoga, craniosacral bodywork, Reiki, improvisational dance and theater, and mindfulness meditation.

I teach professional development workshops and provide individual and group consultation to psychotherapists and other helping professionals, exploring the integration of somatic/body-based work with psychotherapy. This has included providing workshops on Polyvagal Theory for professionals at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health as well as at Omega Institute (2015). I have also co-authored a chapter with Deb Dana, LCSW, in the book entitled Clinical Applications of the Polyvagal Theory: The Emergence of Polyvagal-informed Therapies (Editors Stephen Porges and Deb Dana, 2018).

I also teach improvisational dance using somatic and relational approaches.  My online course Be Your Dance: The Practice That Moves You offers students a way of using dance as a daily practice for health, well-being and embodiment practice.  To learn more about my practice as a teacher of dance and somatic movement educator, go to Beyourdance.com

I am a registered somatic movement therapist (RSMT) and a professional member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), the United States Association of Body Psychotherapy (USABP), the Body-Mind CenteringĀ® Association (BMCA) and the International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association (ISMETA).

I have been in practice as a psychotherapist since 1995 and hold an M.S.S.W. degree from the University of Wisconsin in Madison and a B.A. from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
